Artifact for Monday is Luggage. Often times, stories present themselves when images and/or prompts are reflected upon. I'd like to present a choice of two quick-writes to all of you. Try one or both of them out and please share them with all of us.

1.  Write a seven word sentence  connected in any way to luggage.

2.  You were just told that you and your family have to leave the country. Each family member will be allowed one  medium sized piece of luggage. What will you pack in your luggage  and why?

Too funny, Gail! You mean, back when we had to actually *lug* luggage?

Or - why didn't I invent those wheels on the luggage first????

These are two excellent prompts! I may have to try one out myself, or use one with the 6th grader that I tutor. The possibilities are endless with luggage prompts! :)

I agree Katie. I originally thought of Ellis Island and all those pieces of luggage piled on top of each other. When I was in Jr. High, I remember a survival story given to us and we had to decide as a group which of the characters with their talents/tools should be kicked out of the boat. It had to be a group decision. I can see your kids working in groups and talking this out for a while. I'm guessing they'd go through all of their devices and electronic games first and then realize there might be objects more meaningful and important to survival.

Police unburied the suitcase: a Samsonite coffin.

We did an activity with our students when reading Night in which they wrote the five things they would take with them and put that list inside a cloth bundle . . . powerful emotions in that selection!

Why do I have to travel light?

Hey Sue! Thanks for visiting. I love your ideas above. Did my sentence make the cut? :)
