"Every Hero Has A Story." My Blogging From A to Z theme bridges the summer library reading programs throughout the U.S. with storytelling opportunities, ideas, and activities. |
Mabela the Clever is one smart cookie, I mean mouse. Her dad taught her four very important things to remember as she goes out and about in life. Once Mabela realized that her life and the lives of all the mice were in peril, her courage and cleverness kicked in. This is one of my favorite West African tales to tell to young children. You can't help but have the kids participate in the tale. You might have them wear mouse ears while the sneaking cat wears cat ears. My friend, Margaret Read MacDonald, librarian, storyteller, and author extraordinare, has written a retelling of the folktale and has given me permission to share it with you. Enjoy and please tell it. |
